It Pays to Read the Instructions.

My attitude towards information that comes with all sorts of things varies hugely. I usually skim read dressmaking pattern instructions. With manuals for pieces of electrical equipment, I go straight to the short version and only to the lengthy description if required. Medication; I read the whole sheet and think It seems dangerous to take it. Well, for the journal making class I watched all the videos, read the instructions and most of the comments. But having seen about making another type of journal I thought I've got the water colour paper and will just get on with decorating it. Trouble is mine is 140lbs and I should have used 90lbs as listed. No wonder it all seems rather thick and the pages are having trouble staying shut. This has not taken away from the great fun I am having making them. Yes, I've got two almost done and a third with painted and torn pages ready to go. The first one is based on the garden at the moment with all the roses out.

This image has been transferred using ink-jet transfer paper. I am not sure about it, it is the plastic finish that I feel looks out of place. I much prefer tissue paper, ordinary paper and of course inkAid treated fabric.

I have been making tags to use within the journal too. Would be delighted to know if anyone knows where I might be able to buy some decent weight manila luggage tags. They seem to be heavy weight paper these days and my search has not be fruitful.

Here are a few photographs of the second journal.

On Sunday I spent some time sitting in the garden painting text pages. I just like to have some ready to use. Made a few tags with some.

Like you I am not always good at the instructions part, even after watching the videos, etc. But your journal is still lovely and the little tags stunning! Since I am a lefty, opting for a 3 ring binding makes it possible to
use any weight pages.....then it lies flat no matter what!

Beautiful, inspiring work.
Those tags are delightful...great idea.
And I'm with you re: instruction books ...but always read medication leaflets (I've thrown antibiotics in the bin twice because I can't face the side-effects! :-)

Well your journal is looking great no matter what the paper...

These pages and tags look beautiful, and just tie that journal closed -fat journals are as delicious as cream puffs.

Your pages and tags especially, are so pretty and colourful.

I, too, used thick, 140lbs, paper but I thought that was in the initial list of supplies to use? My book is far too thick but I am not giving up any of my pages and, in fact, still haven't finished adding my little bits of paper and ephemera. I have only completed about 3 or 4 actual pages. I find the process quite slow as I like to think about what I want it to look like and am not very spontaneous!

It's all great fun though.

Re tags, I have some lovely pale cream ones, larger than usual, but not too thick, which I prefer and I got them from LBCrafts.com. I bought them from a show and I can't find them easily on their home page but I expect if you download the catalogue or phone them, they will have them. Hope this will be helpful.

Instructions!!! I skim them too and love it when you get the leaflet thats really thin and its heading is - Quick Start :)
I love what you're doing here - if you can't get the tags you could make some out of the heavy weight card you can buy - the Paper Mill Shop (there's one in Swindon) might have the card there. but The Fruit Pixie has these - she's really quick in posting things out too
